How we invest in women’s health

A PCR test is for more than just COVID. We deliver fast, accurate results to the test specific to women’s needs for every age and stage.
Our service, processes and culture are built upon two years of expert laboratory services, and our staff have decades of laboratory experience.
Our mobile COVID-19 testing stations and our 527 W 125th St. location have been here for the Harlem community since 2020.

Let’s talk about women’s health

When we talk about women’s health, we’re talking about more than reproduction. Women’s health means focusing on health issues that affect only women, show up differently in women or affect women disproportionately.
What does this mean?
  • A woman’s body metabolizes drugs at a different rate than a man’s.
  • A woman's typical symptoms can be different from a man’s, even when the diagnosis is similar.
  • Women are disproportionately affected by some diseases like osteoporosis, heart disease and Alzheimer’s disease.

Why Harlem needs a lab dedicated to the needs of women and girls:

  • Women are one-half of the world’s population and make 80% of healthcare purchase decisions. Yet modern medicine was designed with men as the default. At OvaLab women are our priority.

As lab director of New York City’s first and only clinical laboratory committed entirely to women’s health, I’m committed to ensuring all women in the area have convenient access to the excellent, personalized healthcare they need and deserve.
Healthcare is a human right. At OvaLab, we ensure that New York City women of every genetic makeup, age, ethnicity, environment, background and health history have equal access to care. We do this by offering a comprehensive test menu and using a molecular diagnostic testing process that is faster and more accurate. This provides women with the health information they need when they need it.
